SEIBA Education Opportunities
The Association has made the commitment to issue several scholarships each year depending on number of applications received, interview process, funds available, and Board approval to qualified students for any Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, or any construction related programs.
The Scholarship Process
Promotion
Each year in the spring and fall (concentrated effort given in the fall) SEIBA Members are selected to give presentations to area high schools located in their respective areas. The presentation consists of utilizing a computer laptop PowerPoint presentation (transparencies and hard copies also available) assembled by the SEIBA Scholarship & Marketing Committee illustrating various components of the construction industry and how it relates to each individual. A presenter can also add their own material in addition to the PowerPoint presentation if they wish. These presentations normally will last about one hour or the length of a normal class period. This program has been in-place since 1993. Applications for scholarships are normally given to the instructors and counselors at the various schools for issuance to the students.
Selection Process
Each year the Association receives applications for Construction Scholarships through February 18th. The applications are screened by the Scholarship Committee, which consists usually of at least eight members. Once all applications are screened, those that qualify are requested to be interviewed by the Committee, generally consisting of fifteen to thirty minutes with a series of questions asked by the Committee. During the interview each committee member uses a qualification scorecard and a number is placed on that scorecard that best describes the applicant's qualifications for each category. Once all interviews are complete, the scorecards are tallied and the new recipients are selected on how they qualified by the Committee as a group. Each applicant is then notified on the outcome of the selection process. Prior to beginning each school year the Association's members are notified who the recipients are, normally with the Minutes from one of the fall meetings.
Any member that would like more information relating to the Scholarship Program or would like to get involved in the presentation process, please contact any Board member of SEIBA.
